Running Dogger on Mac OS X (Big Sur)
Hi there! Thank you for downloading our game!
When we were testing this game on our brand new MacBook Air running Mac OS X (Big Sur), we encountered an issue where we were unable to run the Dogger app because we did not have permission to do so. My fiancé is far more adept with Macs than I, so she was kind enough to research and help us solve the problem! Here are the steps she recommends:
- Go to the following StackOverflow post*: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/64842819/cant-run-app-because-of-permission-in-big-sur
- Follow the instructions given by smithmm in the "Answers" section. Please note that this is not the accepted answer, but it is what worked for us.
- After doing this, you will be prompted to enter your password into the terminal. Type your password and press enter.
- Try opening the app again.
- If it says it can't open because it is from an unknown developer, go to System Preferences, Security and Privacy.
- There will be a prompt asking if you would like to open a recently blocked application. Open the app from this prompt!
We apologize that this is such an issue, but we develop on a Windows machine and have no plans of releasing our games through the AppStore. Hope this works out!
Best Regards,
Brandon from TheIndieDream
*In case there is an issue with the stack overflow post, here is the copied version of the answer that we found helpful:
From smithmm:
Open Terminal or iTerm and type sudo chmod -R 755
, then drag the .app
into the window, which will bring the full path into Terminal or iTerm. This worked for me, moving the -R
option directly after chmod
.
It will look like this:
sudo chmod -R 755 Path\ to\ app\ file.app
Press return.
